  • Lovely spacious and quiet get away. Great service and experience. Would have liked the bed to be a bit softer as I am a "princess n the pea" kind of gal so I didn't sleep to well. The shower was fantastic. The door lock and key system was a bit tricky, but over all we will highly recommend it to others. 4

  • Okurukuru Chalets is a beautiful place to stay. The accommodation is top class and perfect for a weekend away from it all. The views from the lounge and bedroom are wonderful and we spent most of our time on the deck watching the different moods of the sea and sky (and the pukeko!). Great sunset on Saturday night! We also appreciated the little touches, like the breakfast supplies, which made the whole experience perfect. Would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone. Is certainly a special place and we hope to be back soon for a longer stay. 5

  • Fabulous location! It is a perfect place to get away from your busy everyday life. We love the set up of the 2 chalets and have it in mind to bring our family to come and stay when they travel back home from Europe. 5

  • Chalet was in good condition & clean. The fridge was well stocked with breakfast stuff. The bed was very comfortable and a good size. The restaurant service was good and the food was very nice. The downside was regarding the WIFI access. I was there on business and needed to check my email. The WIFI signal could only be picked up in the restaurant. The WIFI was password protected, but neither the lady who looked after the chalet nor the people in the restaurant knew the code and neither were very helpful in finding out what it might be. My solution was to drive to the Starbucks in New Plymouth to use their WIFI. 4

  • Thanks for your feedback, glad you enjoyed your stay and I'm sorry the restaurant staff were not able to get you the up to date password to use the WIFI in the restaurant. With regards To the WIFI, the chalets were originally designed as an escape, so WIFI was not in the original plan. The restaurant is now run separately to the chalets, so we have no control over the password. To overcome this problem we are getting WIFI installed, it should be completed in the next few weeks - too late for you, I know, but it's only by getting feedback from valued guests such as yourselves that we know what improvements to make. Thanks again.

  • Thought the chalets were lovely, clean , modern and well kitted out. The view was great and I could see myself staying there whatever the weather. It was great. The breakfast basket was lovely and there was plenty in it. The only down side, which wasn't a deal breaker, was the TV. It had terrible reception and stayed on a program for about half hour at the most before it went off and "no signal" came on. 4

  • Accommodation was first class - only shocker was instant coffee - the provision of real freshly ground coffee has become accepted practice in most high quality accommodation units across New Zealand Meal in restaurant was OK, nice but not outstanding ... staff, though friendly and attentive, showed a distinct lack of knowledge/experience in some areas. 4
JOHN EVANS - Dec 5, 2011 (Stayed Nov 2011) Travelbug verified review
  • Hi John There should have been a coffee plunger and ground coffee in your chalet as well as the instant, so sorry if they were not there for your stay, I will ensure this does not happen again! Thank you for your feedback re the restaurant, I will pass this on to the kitchen staff. We do have some new front of house staff from time to time, that obviously need time to get the experience required to be able to answer any questions, hopefully they said they would find out the answers to any queries from more experienced staff and brought you the answers, if this wasn't the case, please let me know, so I can review our staff training. Kind regards Eileen Marshall Front of House/Accommodation Manager

  • An amazing place to stay!! The view out over the sea from your bed is stunning and the staff at Okurukuru were delightful!! There was a slight mix up with our breakfast which the the staff more than made up for.. the breakfast was lovely and included fresh fruit and a cute selection of tarts. The staff even did up a sweet little dessert with candle for my birthday when we dined in the restaurant on our 2nd night :D an amazing place to stay for a quite, reasonably secluded weekend away or special occasion, i know i will be going back!! A+++ 5
